MFTs: The board states that 15 of the 30 required CE hours "may be taken through programs recognized by the Professional Counselor Section" - which includes all courses offered through this website - including your required 4 hours in professional ethics.

Advanced Practice Social Worker: The board states that CE hours "may be taken through programs recognized by the Professional Counselor Section" - which includes all courses offered through this website - including your required 4 hours in professional ethics.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker: The board states that CE hours "may be taken through programs recognized by the Professional Counselor Section" - which includes all courses offered through this website - including your required 4 hours in professional ethics.

The Michigan Bureau of Health Professionals is an affiliate of NBCC, but it does not require Continuing Education for its LPCs and LLCs. The Bureau leaves it to the discretion of the individual to demonstrate maintenance of competence: "You are responsible for maintaining your competence in your profession but you do not have to demonstrate the ways you are doing that for renewal."

Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists AND Oregon Board of Clinical Social Workers both accept our NBCC CE Provider #6338, for CE courses for LPCs, LMFTs, and LCSWs.

NOTE: A Social Worker rule change adds a requirement to include professional ethics training to the continuing education requirement - see OAR 877-025-0016. A LCSW is required to submit a report every two years that includes 40 total CE hours. According to the new CE rule, 6 of these 40 hours must include ethics training. Any LCSW reporting CE beginning January 1, 2009 must include 6 hours of ethics training. This requirement applies to each two-year CE reporting period after January 1, 2009. Example: The CE reporting period for a LCSW ends 9/30/09. The CE report that the LCSW will submit then must show six hours of ethics CE.

The Bureau does not pre-approve continuing education providers, sponsors or individual programs. The Bureau's definition of acceptable Continuing Education is this: "Continuing education" for Social Workers means "planned, organized learning acts acquired during licensure designed to maintain, improve, or expand a licensee's knowledge and skills in order for the licensee to develop new knowledge and skills relevant to the enhancement of practice, education, or theory development to improve the safety and welfare of the public."

• Professional Counselors and Clinical Professional Counselors: The Illinois Division of Professional Regulation accepts our NBCC CE Provider # 6338.

• Social Workers: CEU By Net's CE Credits are accepted by Illinois's board for Social Workers, based upon the Illinois Rules for Social Workers.

See this document to verify that our courses are automatically approved in Indiana due to NBCC certification, and that we need no other provider authorization. Here is an excerpt from that document:

Based upon the published requirements of the Ohio Board, our distance learning courses meet all requirements for out-of-state internet-based POST-APPROVAL for counselors, marriage and family therapists, and social workers.

However, to get credit, you need to submit a short, simple Post-Approval Form to your board, for your particular license:

You must submit these forms to your Ohio Board within 90 days of completion of the course.

Specifics: The OhioState Board Rules related to Post-Approval of Out-Of-State Internet Programs say:

"Post program approval forms may be used for renewals, for programs taken outside the State of Ohio . . .  This form is to be submitted within ninety (90) days of attending a program. You must complete the required post approval form and submit documentation showing completion of the program and information on the program . . . It will take approximately 30 days to receive a response on a post program approval."    

NOTE: The same regulation also says:  "This form may also be used to request approval for presentation and distance learning options."  That's what we are - a 'distance learning program'.)

[NOTE: We are in the process of applying to the Ohio Counselor Social Worker Marriage and Family Therapist Board for PRE-APPROVAL to provide continuing education. Until we obtain this status, you may submit Post-Approval forms.]

(e) All certifying organizations (listed in Section 13035) shall accept as continuing education credits hours of training in the areas specified in (c) and (d), provided by any State, county, city, or other governmental agency or by any agency which provides services through a contractual arrangement with a State and/or county agency.

The Nevada Board of Examiners for Marriage and Family Therapists and Clinical Professional Counselors states that it is in a state of flux in licensure regulation. They are currently negotiating with NBCC regarding Clinical Professional Counselor (CPC) exams. There is currently no mechanism by which providers can apply to provide CE for CPCs, although hopefully when their NBCC discussions are completed, they will accept NBCC courses.

NOTE: If you find a course that you feel is applicable to your license, you might wish to contact your licensing board for pre-approval to take the course.

Utah Dept of Occupational Professional Licensing is an affiliate of NBCC. We are NBCC CE Provider #6338.

• NBCC-approved courses are accepted by the Professional Counselor licensing board with discretion of the licensee as to applicability of the course to the license and the practice.

• NBCC-approved courses are accepted by the Marriage and Family Therapy licensing board, with discretion of the licensee as to applicability of the course to the license and practice.

For Utah Social Workers, based upon the published criteria for acceptable CE, as seen in the Utah Social Worker Licensing Act Rules, our courses and certifications [by national and state social work and other Boards] meet the requirements for CE Credit. The rules state:

3) Continuing education under this section shall:

(a) be relevant to the licensee's professional practice;

(b) be prepared and presented by individuals who are qualified by education,

training, and experience to provide social work continuing education; and

(c) have a method of verification of attendance.

.... and which are approved by, conducted by or under sponsorship of:

(iv) professional associations, societies and organizations representing a

licensed profession whose program objectives relate to the practice of social work.

The Colorado Mental Health Licensing Section does not require continuing education to renew licenses, according to current published information.

LPCCs - The Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors automatically accepts our CE courses based upon our NBCC CE Provider Approval (Online CE Provider #6338). See item 8. below - National Board for Certified Counselors:

"5.9. The Board shall grant a maximum of twenty (20) contact hours within each renewal period for home study programs. Only home study programs pre-approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and the American Counseling Association (ACA) are granted home study program approval."

SOCIAL WORKERS:  The West Virginia Board of Social Work Examiners has advised us that CEUs from our online internet courses may be utilized as part of the 20-hour Category II  continuing education allowance for Social Workers (which has been established by the Board for internet education and other professional activities).

". . .  if internet education, they can use this under the Category II Individual Professional Activities (IPA) for up to 20 hours if not WVBSWE approved. It all applies to the total hours needed to renew."

Vermont's Board of Allied Mental Health Practitioners is an affiliate of NBCC and will accept programs offered by NBCC-Approved CE Providers (we are NBCC CE Provider #6338), provided that ". . . . a continuing education program's objectives must relate directly to counseling theory or the application of counseling theory or practice."

Please review the course description in the Course Catalog to determine applicability. However, all of our courses should be appropriate, and have been approved by NBCC and numerous State Licensing Boards.

Note re CE for Rostered Psychotherapists: "5.7 Continuing Education for Rostered Psychotherapists Vermont law does not mandate continuing education for psychotherapists. Psychotherapists are encouraged to expand their professional education and skills by participating in continuing education, both formal and informal. Practitioners are reminded that providing services which one is not qualified to provide, or which are beyond the scope of his or her education, training, capabilities, experience, or scope of practice can be a failure to practice competently and unprofessional conduct."

20 of the 40 required CE hours may be earned through home study courses. We are NBCC CE provider #6338, and our courses are considered to be "home study" under these requirements.

6 of the 40 credits must be earned in Ethics - and we offer 7 credit hours in Ethics on our site (a 3 hour course and a 4 hour course - fast paced slide shows).

SOCIAL WORKERS - The Maine DEPARTMENT OF PROFESSIONAL AND FINANCIAL SERVICES' BOARD OF SOCIAL WORKER LICENSURE defines continuing education as "continuing professional education directly related to the practice of social work". OUR COURSES MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS. Board allows licensee to submit CE credits for courses which have not been pre-approved based upon compliance with this definition. 10 hours of distance learning are allowed per renewal period.

For LMHCs, the Massachusets Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professionals states that it accepts NBCC approved CE providers. We are NBCC CE #6338.

For LMFTs, the Massachusets Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professional states that it accepts CE courses and credits which are approved by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The AAMFT accepts courses approved by its member State of Texas - and Naylor & Assoc's CEU By Net is an approved CE Provider for LMFTs in Texas (LMFT CE Provider #192)

Board of Mental Health Counselors/Marriage & Family Therapists is an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and accepts courses approved by NBCC

A MINIMUM of twenty (20) of the forty (40) credits of continuing education shall be completed within Category 1, Formal Programs, which includes web-based offerings.

The Dept of Public Health - State of Connecticut Licensing Center has established the following CE criteria for each license category:

LPC CE - Courses which are approved by NBCC are acceptable. We are NBCC CE Provider #6338, and all of our courses are approved by NBC. 15 hours annually.

MFT CE - Courses which are approved by NBCC are acceptable. We are NBCC CE Provider #6338, and all of our courses are approved by NBC. 15 hours annually.

LCSW CE - Our courses are approved by multiple State Social Work Licensing Boards, ALL OF WHICH ARE MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORK BOARDS. Therefore our courses should all be accepted by the State of Connecticut for Social Workers.

The Board states that: "The Connecticut Department of Public Health does not review and approve CE courses.  It is incumbent on the provider and the practitioner to ensure that the continuing education activities meet the following requirements: . . . . The providers of continuing education are . . . . accredited by the . . . . Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) or other nationally recognized organization that demonstrates with similar standards."

• NOTE: The SW Board states that "Home study programs may on constitute a maximum of 6 hours of the annual 15 hour CE requirement."

The New Jersey State Board of Marriage & Family Therapy Examiners and the Professional Counselor Examiners Committee are affiliates of the NBCC, and accept courses provided by NBCC-approved CE Providers. We are NBCC CE Provider #6338.

Acceptance of NBCC-sponsored courses is found in the following State Law:

"13:34-8.3 Approval of continuing education programs and courses (a) .... 1. Courses and programs approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) . . ."

All of our courses comply with the content requirements for MFTs, Rehabilitation Counselors, and Professional (and Associate) Counselors. You do not need to personally be a member of NBCC to take our courses. Your state is the affiliate.

CE accepted by the Delaware State Board of Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Professionals:

• Our NBCC CE Provider #6338 is accepted for Licensed Professional Counselors - Mental Health (LPCMH). License renewal occurs on September 30 of even years.

• Our State of Texas Professional Licensing and Certification for Chemical Dependency professionals is accepted for Delaware Chemical Dependency Professionals (LCDP).

SOCIAL WORKERS: Our courses meet the requirements of section 7.2.5.1 of the Delaware Board of Clinical Social Work Examiners. License renewal occurs January 31 of odd years.

The Virginia Board of Social Work accepts our Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners CE Certification for LCSW, LSW, Registered Social Worker

The Virginia Board of Counseling accepts our NBCC CE Provider #6338 and our Texas State Board Certifications for CE, for the following:

• Licensed Professional Counselors
• Certified Substance Abuse Counselors
• Certified Substance Abuse Counseling Assistants
• Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner

The North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors is an affiliate of NBCC, and accepts our NBCC CE Provider #6338 for all of our courses. NOTE: You do not have to be a member of NBCC, yourself, to take our courses.

• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists:

The North Carolina Marriage and Family Therapy L8icensure Board. does not pre-approve CE courses:

"..... The State Board shall not pre approve continuing education programs...... Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists shall submit each year with the license renewal forms evidence of 12 hours of continuing education credits* in marriage and family therapy continuing education obtained subsequent to the prior license renewal. Evidence of completion shall consist of a certificate of attendance and completion signed by the responsible officer of a continuing education provider."

The renewing licensee should review the description of any course they wish to take through our website, and decide about relevance to MFT. All of our courses are approved for MFTs by NBCC, and the State Boards of California and Texas.

South Carolina Dept. of Labor Licensing Regulations - Div Professional & Occupational Licensing is an affiliate of NBCC and accepts all courses of NBCC Providers (we are NBCC CE Provider #6338), so long as the licensee considers the course relevant to his or her license.

Some important notes from the Licensing Board's Continuing Education document:

1. "A maximum of fifteen (15) hours during each two-year licensure period may be obtained through informal continuing education . . . .[whiich includes] individual self-study to include use of on-line courses."

2. " . . . the benefit of selecting a sponsor who has already been reviewed and approved by this licensing Board or NBCC or AAMFT is automatic acceptance for continuing education hours, as long as it is relevant to your area of practice and offers professional development in your profession."

Our information indicates that the State of Hawaii does not currently require continuing education for licensed mental health professionals.

The District of Columbia Board of Social Work accepts our Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners CE Provider Certification #4670, for all Social Work licensure designations. Response to our email to the District of Columbia Department of Health, Health Professional Licensing Administration, D.C. Board of Social Work provided this information:

"Social Work: If the course is approved by NASW, ASWB or any other state Social Work Board it is approved for District Social Workers.  Again, if NASW, ASWB or any other state Social Work Board has approved your course no additional approval is need for DC."
