These courses are designed for those who are (or will be) providing treatment under a contract with a Managed Care company (such as an MCO, BHO, or HMO) .... OR for another type of 'Care Management' organization or government contractor ... or for a Private or Commercial Insurance Carrier who signs behavioral health practitioners to a PANEL.
Virtually all private or commercial insurance carriers now utilize some form of CARE MANAGEMENT in order to ensure that the care delivered meets their own MEDICAL NECESSITY criteria. So even if you don't plan on providing Medicaid services under an HMO or the State, these courses are still very relevant for you, if you are a private practitioner joining an 'Insurance Panel'.
Example of one of our courses: Managed Care Course 4A (awarding 4 CEUs) provides an unvarnished view of what has CHANGED due to the coming of Managed Care to the Mental Health (MH) and Chemical Dependency (CD) / Substance Abuse (SA) treatment fields - including what can go WRONG in the State's design of its plans, and what type of Provider Agreements to seek out and to avoid.
This course also addresses the clinical criteria used by insurance companies and HMOs to determine your client's 'eligibility' for the treatment you are requesting. Specifically, we clearly describe the 4 CORE ELEMENTS of CARE MANAGEMENT, which insurance companies use to determine "Medical Necessity of Treatment". Understanding and applying these four core elements will give you more control over whether the treatment you request is approved or denied.
We also address such managed care-relevant topics as the key to EFFECTIVE DOCUMENTATION of the treatment you provide, protecting you from negative records audits .... and the ETHICS OF DOCUMENTATION in client records when insurance is paying the bill .... and the major changes which Managed Care has brought to the the ADDICTION TREATMENT FIELD.
How many credit hours do these courses award? From 1 hour to 10 credit hours (and our 10-credit Course 10A is only $50). We offer several courses which award a single certificate for each course, awarding from 1 to 5 credits each. But some of our Managed Care courses (FlexiCourses 4A, 5A, and 10A) are organized into convenient modules or chapters which allow you to collect a certificate for each separate module - collect all now, or save some for later when you need them!
